WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

Applebee's can best be described as a "family restaurant" because it has something for everyone. The atmosphere is upbeat and the wait staff appears to be picked for their easygoing personalities. The decor is a mix of photographs of early rock groups, Tiffany type lamps, and other fun things. The restaurant has a slightly "busy", but cheerful, feel to it. This location reminded us of other Applebee's that we have eaten in, so we assume that they are all similar in design. The food here is good average fare and the prices are reasonable.

***We returned in August 2003 and found the restaurant to be as good as before, if not better. Many items have been added to their menu and some have been deleted. The new listing is in blue below.

Tom had to try the Chicken Fiesta because it looked so good in the television ads! Indeed, it was pretty good. A chicken breast is filled with cheese, batter fried and gravy is added to it. Mashed potatoes made from red skinned potatoes with some sour cream (?) accompanied the chicken, along with spicy string beans and onions. There was an orange tortilla chip and a black tortilla chip in the potatoes that looked like large sails. an attractive presentation!

Santa Fe Chicken Salad ($6.99) Very Good - Very attractively presented. It has thin strips of purple and orange tortilla chips throughout. The ingredients were very fresh and colorful, but the dressing was a little to sharp for Wendy's taste. It was fine until most of the salad was eaten and the bottom pieces of lettuce were saturated in the dressing. Most people would probably enjoy the flavor, but we would not suggest it for people who do not like very spicy dressings. This salad also came in "half size".

Steak Salad (half-size for $7.99) Excellent - Plenty for a luncheon portion. Four huge slices of tomato and plenty of steak. It had a blue cheese vinaigrette dressing, which Wendy thought was wonderful. The pieces of blue cheese were sharp enough but not too sharp to overwhelm the salad. Everything was crisp and brightly colored,
