WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

We feel like "country cousins" when we dine in New York! We are used to restaurants having more space between tables so that you can easily walk between them. The Atlantic Grill is probably quite spacious by Manhattan standards, but we find it to be cramped. It is attractive, however, with high ceilings and an overall theme of pastel shades. Large, attractive paintings are hung on the pale blue walls. We have been here for Thanksgiving dinner and found it to be unremarkable. We have now dined here for brunch and still have the same impression. The restaurants does have some strengths, however, the service has a touch of elegance, the menu has a nice variety of offerings, and the prices are reasonable. Perhaps we need to return for a dinner meal. When we read what others have said about it on restaurant review sites, other people appear to be more impressed! THE ATLANTIC GRILL

ADDRESS:

1341 Third Avenue, New York, NY

DATE:

October 7, 2001

MEAL:

Brunch

BREAD:

Irish bread served with strawberry butter. Although the butter is pink, it really doesn't taste like strawberry.

SALAD:

APPETIZER:

Bloody Mary (included in meal) Excellent - Served with a celery stick and a lime on a plastic sword. Spicy, but not too spicy!

ENTREE:

Sliced Nova Scotia Salmon with Tomato, Toasted Bagel, and Cream Cheese ($15.50) Okay - Bagel was large and chewy, 4 pieces of thinly sliced salmon were of high quality, tomatoes lacked color. Also served with capers.

Wild Mushroom, Cheddar and Herbs Omelette ($10.95) Good - Although the omelette was large and cooked well, the accompanying potatoes were poor. Not only were they cold, but they were coated with a spice that did not complement them. A small bowl of fresh fruit came with this entree.
