Rockport is definitely a tourist attraction, and it demands tourist prices! All of the restaurants are a bit pricey and the Blacksmith Shop restaurant is no exception. Luckily, the day we were there, one of the daily specials was twin lobsters for $19.99, instead of its usual price of $26.99. There are several other daily specials to choose from. Other regularly priced entrees include: Fried Clams ($19), Fisherman's Platter ($29), Yellow Fin Tuna ($27), and Baked Stuffed Lobster ($32). Also on the menu are a sirloin strip, a chicken dish, lamb, as well as some salads (Cobb $10). All the yummy sounding desserts are either $7 or $8. The restaurant is bright, airy and simple. It has a windowed wall with a scenic view of the water and motif #1. Tables are covered with fabric tablecloths, which are then covered with a sheet of glass. The tableware is attractive and everything is spotless. This is one of the few restaurants that we have been to in Rockport that leaves ample space between tables. This is definitely a place to find an unhurried meal, pleasant surroundings, and excellent service.
RESTAURANT: THE BLACKSMITH
SHOP ADDRESS: 23 Mount Pleasant street, Rockport, MA DATE: July 28, 2001 MEAL: Lunch BREAD: SALAD: APPETIZER: ENTREE: Twin Lobsters ($19.99) Excellent - The lobsters were
cooked perfectly and served steaming hot. Their tails had
been split down the center for easy eating and the claws had
been cracked. The bliss potatoes were very nice and the corn
was tasty. Haddock Sandwich ($13.00, a special of the day) Good -
Served on a huge floury Kaiser roll. The roll was huge, but
another type of roll might have been a better choice. The
French Fries were "average" and the fish was fine. DESSERT: OTHER: Parking is difficult but there is a shuttle bus
available from outside of town to the center of town Very casual attire - shorts are acceptable Separate bar area OVERALL: This is a tough one to rate. While the lobster was
excellent, the haddock sandwich was only average. On the
other hand, the total experience rates very high. It is
certainly the nicest restaurant that we have eaten in in
Rockport, but we haven't tried them all. So, as a
compromise: A - lobster meal B - haddock A- total experience
