We know we are going to offend many of the regulars at The Clam Box with our review, but that's the way it goes! The restaurant has won awards for its fried clams and people appear to appreciate the food at this popular eatery. We found The Clam Box to be a clean, well managed place with outdoor seaating as well as tables indoor. The glassed enclosure affords diners a nice view of the water and it lets in a great deal of light. This adds to the brightness of the restaurant and is a plus. Our concern is with the food. Diners at The Clam Box order their food at the counter and it is delivered quickly. Soft drinks are sold in bottles from the cooler. Diners then proceed to the end of the restaurant to get plasticware and condiments. Compared to Tony's Clam Shop, a similar restaurant nearby, the Clam Box rates a distant second place.
RESTAURANT: THE CLAM BOX 789 Quincy Shore Drive, Quincy,
MA (Wollaston Beach) DATE: September 2004 MEAL: Lunch DECOR: BREAD: SALAD: APPETIZER: ENTREE: Combination Plate - a
reasonnably large plate of fried fish, scallops,
shrimp, whole clams, and smelts served with French Fries. -
Poor . All of the ingredients were encased in a heavy oily
batter that totally obliterated the taste of the seafood.
The French Fries were generic but tasty. The Cole Slaw was
generic and uninspired. Fish Plate (Full) - Haddock with
French Fries, Cole Slaw and Onion Rings ($1.00 extra) -
Reasonable. The large but very thin piece of fish was not
as heavily coated with the batter and, therefore, was
acceptable. The onion rings were awful! The tasteless batter
was twice as thick as the onions rings and the rings were
devoid of any onion flavor. DESSERT: OTHER: Relatively easy to park on the
street Dress is casual OVERALL: C-
We have eaten here before but did not write a review We
remember our meals as being superior to the ones served
today. We are willing to return since all the people who
rave about this restaurant can't all be
wrong!
