WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

We seem to find the nicest little restaurants in quaint New England towns. Here is another gem that we stumbled upon! The Common Man is an updated Colonial house (or maybe a barn) with original rough, wood rafters and posts. The decor is mostly done in maroon and tan shades. Tables have tan tablecloths and maroon place mats. The walls are covered with antique items and pictures. In the lobby area breads are sold as well as chocolate bars and antique prints. Also in this area is a basket of assorted crackers and a boursin cheese and a cottage cheese with horseradish and some kind of tomato base. Diners serve themselves from this setup. We had lunch at The Common Man, but have included a copy of the standard dinner menu. At lunch, as well as at dinner, many specials of the day are added to the printed menu. This restaurant has a great deal of charm and class and we will definitely return.

***Note - We have returned many times since we wrote this review. This has become one of our favorites. We have yet to have anything but a wonderful meal here. One of our favorites is their quiche. They also make terrific soups amd desserts. In fact, almost everything they make is excellent!
