Looking for an elegant French restaurant with loads of charm? Destinee should be on your list. Offered here is a prix fixe dinner for $55.00 that has it all! The dining room itself is somewhat cramped, but could be referred to as "cozy." Other than that, everything is wonderful. The room has banquettes along the outside walls and round tables in the center. There are huge 4 foot flower arrangements in vases to add color to the room. The service is outstanding and the food is attractively presented and superbly prepared.
Note: We ate here with 15 other people as a "pre wedding celebration." We did not take our usual amount of notes so we have gaps in our review. We will try to get a menu and be more accurate in our descriptions.
RESTAURANT: DESTINEE ADDRESS: 134 East 31st Street, New York, NY DATE: October 8, 2001 MEAL: Dinner BREAD: Mini baguettes SALAD: APPETIZER: We forget what it was called! Something like "pot au
feu with foie gras". Whatever it was, it had pate wrapped in
leaves in the center and this was surrounded by a delicious
clear soup with vegetables. Calamari Salad - a very different and unusual
presentation A small cup of cold lobster bisque(?) served between
courses as a "amuse bouche" ENTREE: Sirloin Steak - served with macaroni. The steak was a
little tough, which was a surprise since everything else was
so perfect. Elegantly presented on a large square glass
dish. Black Sea Bass with Asparagus. Another beautifully
prepared dish. DESSERT: Others had a well prepared souffle, but we forget what
we had! OTHER: Portion size is "average" OVERALL: A Definitely a "classy" place to dine for a reasonable
price.
