WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

The Dolphin boasts that it offers "the freshest seafood products available, hand picked each morning at the fish piers in Boston. We at the Dolphin pride ourselves on Value and Quality for even the heartiest appetites." We found this to be a reasonable statement. The food was very fresh and well prepared, plus the price was reasonable. We had expected a little less formal restaurant and were surprised at its attractive decor. A dimly lit room is done in turquoise that is highlighted on the rugs, walls, suspended lights, and tablecloths. Fresh carnations adorn the tables. Although it was above 90 degrees outside, there were few people wearing shorts. Of course it was a business day and many people were in business attire while others were informally dressed.

Some of the house specialities:

RESTAURANT:

THE DOLPHIN

12 Washington Street, Natick, MA

June 2002

MEAL:

Dinner

DECOR:

Nautical

BREAD:

Good, warm rolls with butter served in tiny containers

SALAD:

Totally uninspired - iceberg lettuce

APPETIZER:

ENTREE:

Fresh Seafood Platter ($14.95) Perfectly prepared in a light, crispy batter. Cole slaw was just right and the tartar sauce was better than usual.

Twin Lobsters ($22.95) A little bit tough. They were not that hot so they may have been standing too long before they were served. The wait staff failed to bring a cracker or a bib until they were requested. The melted butter had been spilled before it was delivered but more was not brought until requested. Broccoli was served almost raw, as seems to be the style of the day.

DESSERT:

OTHER:

Parking on street and in a small lot

Dress is casual

We saw others eating large portions of fish.

Attentive wait staff

Children's meals available

OVERALL:

A-

There seemed to be a bit of confusion with the wait staff. Perhaps they were new. We do not hold this against the restaurant. We liked what we saw and will certainly return again. The fried platter was one of the best we have had. Next time we will sample the fresh fish.
