WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

*Fava had a fire and had to be rebuilt. We found the new setting much more to our liking. The tables seemed further apart and we did not feel cramped at all. The service was excellent and the food was very good. We did not take note of the prices of our meals, but they were pricey. We didn't take any notes at all, so we can only make a few comments from what we remember.

MEAL:

Dinner

DECOR:

Attractive, subdued, updated 30's

Sourdough with interesting hummus dip

SALAD:

ENTREE:

Hanger Steak with Garlicy Spinach and Mashed Potatoes ($19.95) - We did not care for the outside flavoring on the steak. Since it was sliced thickly, each piece had too much of this flavor. The steak was not tender enough. The potatoes had too much pepper. The spinach flavor was lost in all the garlic.

Lobster Clambake - lobster, clams, mussels - nicely done
Lamb with roasted potatoes - very good

Note: the menu gave much more thorough and elegant descriptions of the meals!

DESSERT:

OTHER:

The seating is somewhat cramped, but not too bad. The outside of the restaurant does not suggest the elegance inside. The food is served on huge plates and the silverware and stemware is attractive. The presentation of the food is outstanding. Everything looks beautiful! The menu included a chicken dish, a pork dish, the beef that we had and several fish dishes. (Maybe veal too.) The pork looked very good. We sat near the bar and the waiters stood a few feet away, laughing and talking loudly. This was distracting and annoying for such an elegant place. It took three requests to get a diet drink from the bar that was only a few feet away.
