Here is a perfectly wretched restaurant that says it specializes in Pekinese and Cantonese cuisine. In spite of the fact that some of the food was reasonably good, the Grand China is not a place that we can recommend. We should have known what to expect from the unkempt and shabbily painted exterior, but sometimes exterior looks can be deceiving! The decor reminded us of "dingy Chinese." The walls had an unattractive painted mural that had become more unattractive because the paint was soiled and pieces had chipped off. The ladies room reflected this same poor taste in painting and cleanliness! Hanging from the restaurant ceiling were tiki-like lanterns with what appears to be colored plastic inserts. The carpets were worn. The room was large and dimly lit with dark red and black Formica table tops and bright red paper place mats. Bread was placed on the table in a bright red plastic basket. The service was adequate and the waiter tried to be helpful. The menu was inviting with 42 combination plates that varied in price according to when they were served. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. the prices are increased.
