We are somewhat confused by the name of this restaurant! On their menu it is called, "Hisa," but on the Internet it is listed as "Hesa" and on their menu there is a "Hesa Special." Perhaps it would help if we knew what the words meant in Japanese and perhaps it doesn't matter! We found this rather small Japanese restaurant to be a somewhat ordinary place that is trying to present better than ordinary food. The decor is "Japanese minimalist" with little on the walls and rose colored tablecloths under slabs of glass. The plates, serving dishes, and boxes are a nice touch and add a bit of color and Japanese flavor to the place.
RESTAURANT: HISA/HESA 21 South Street , Westboro,
MA DATE: April 2004 MEAL: Dinner BREAD: White rice SALAD: A small bowl of iceberg lettuce
with the addition of shredded carrots served with a tangy
French style dressing with lots of garlic APPETIZER: Miso Soup - a typical, pleasant,
variety ENTREE: Hisa's Special Bento ($18.95)
Excellent - A large lacquered box held much too much food
for one person. There was Shrimp Tempura, Vegetable Tempura
(sweet potato, green bean, broccoli, carrot), Beef Teriyaki,
soybeans, a California Roll, and a dessert of bananas and
canned pineapple. The beef was tender and the broccoli was
cooked perfectly. Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura
($13.95) Very Good - This restaurant serves the tempura
batter fried with nothing in it along with the other tempura
that has vegetables or shrimp inside. We thought this was a
bit odd. DESSERT: Green Tea Ice
Cream OTHER: Relatively easy to park on the
street Dress is casual Wait staff was pleasant and
courteous Food served with wooden
chopsticks although silverware is probably
available. OVERALL: B+
Although this restaurant does not have much charm or warmth,
it was very clean and it does have good food. We would not
go out of our way to return again because it is a distance
from our home. However, we were certainly pleased enough by
the whole experience that we would return if we were in the
area.
