WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

Jamjuli is a newcomer to Newton and a nice addition to the community. It is a small restaurant that sits well off the road behind a convenience store and an Electrolux dealership. Its address of "Walnut Street" is a bit deceiving! This pleasant eatery is done in tones of purple and beige. The tabletops are formica but give the appearance of having an inlaid pattern. Place mats are purple to complement the purple napkins. Hanging lamps and greenery complete the look of this light and airy restaurant. The silverware, glassware, and plates are all attractive and not the standard shape or design. The menu consists of soups (Hot and Sour Shrimp, Glass Noodle, Chicken Coconut, Vegetable), Appetizers (Satay, Siam Rolls, Todman, Fresh Shrimp Rolls, etc.), Salads (Nam Sod, Chicken, Saigon Diced, Shrimp, Grilled Hot Beef Kabobs, etc.), Noodles and Fried Rice dishes (Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, Hot Crazy Noodles, etc.), Jamjuli Specialties (Duck Choo Chee, Medallions of Pork, Tofu Miracle, etc.), Seafood Offerings (See below), Vegetarian Corner (Vegetable Curry, Tofu in the Pot, Tofu Royale, Vegetarian Rainbow), and Interesting Pan-Fried Dishes (Pork Garlic, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Wild Boar Basil, Chicken Ginger, etc.) and Curry Offerings (Shrimp Green Curry, Chicken Yellow Curry, Chicken/Beef Red Curry, Chicken/Beef Masaman). There are also a few side dishes and a few desserts.

APPETIZER:

Jamjuli Sample ($6.00) Very Good - A combination of 6 appetizers: 2 Siam Rolls, two Vegetarian Rolls, and two Shrimp in a Blanket. Served with 2 dipping sauces. Hard to distinguish any difference in taste between the first two. The outsides were nice and light and flaky on all three appetizers.

Todman ($5.75) Very Good - "Minced shrimp and cod fish mixed with Thai curry sauce and sliced Thai long beans; fried and served with cucumber sauce."

ENTREE:

Tamarind Pork ($9.00) Very Good - "Tender pork pan fried with snowpeas, baby corn and bamboo shoots in our house special spicy sauce." Was supposed to be spicy and was properly spiced.

Jamjuli Garden ($8.75) Very Good - "Boiled chicken on a bed of broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans topped with Jamjuli's special peanut sauce."
