Spouses often disagree and we certainly disagree on this restaurant. Tom finds the atmosphere to be acceptable and the food to be average. Wendy, however, finds the restaurant's atmosphere to be unacceptable, but the food, very good. The decor of this Not Your Average Joe's is different from the one we visited in Needham. This one is larger and more open. It has tables and banquettes perched on a multicolored linoleum floor. The walls have similar multicolored geometric shapes painted on them. The restaurant has wait persons deal with any table that needs attention so we ended up having numerous different members of the wait staff ask us the same questions, "Have you ordered drinks yet", or "Would you like more bread?" The wait staff must be told to be sociable with the patrons and that means they stand and chat at the tables. They are bustling about, chatting here, questioning there, and creating a somewhat chaotic feel. They were definitely gregarious and pleasant, but Wendy likes things a bit more relaxed and organized when she dines out. She also likes background music, but felt the music at Joe's was too loud.
RESTAURANT: NOT YOUR AVERAGE
JOE'S 16 Mazzeo Drive, Randolph, MA DATE: February 5, 2000 MEAL: Dinner BREAD: Heavy sourdough (?) bread served with oil for dipping.
This wonderful concoction is seasoned with pepper flakes,
and parmesan cheese. Definitely our favorite thing about the
restaurant! The oil is a garlic lovers delight. SALAD: "Not Your Average House Salad" ($3.75) Very good - A
mix of baby greens, sprouts, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red
onion, served with a sweet vidalia onion dressing. APPETIZER: ENTREE: Wood Grilled Sirloin with red pepper mashed potatoes,
sautéed green beans, and onion straws ($14.95)
Excellent - Nicely grilled on the outside and medium rare on
the inside. The onion straws were tasty and the beans,
although somewhat uninspired, were properly cooked. The
portion size was so large that half of it went home with us
for a second meal. - Wendy Tom had the same meal but ordered his well done. It
came out charred on the outside, but nice on the inside.
Unfortunately, the outside was somewhat inedible! DESSERT: OTHER: Do not order steak well done The bread is very filling! Resist the urge to eat too
many hunks of it. Service was slow Plenty of free parking in lot Dress is very casual Also available are pizzas, pastas, dinners, and
burgers . The night we were there they had run out of
hamburgers by 7 p.m. OVERALL: Wendy - food = B+, atmosphere = C Tom - food = C, atmosphere = B
