WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

We rarely give buffets a high rating because they are typically chocked full of mediocre food. This is certainly not the case with Minado. Of the many items we tried, most were excellent. Some were a bit plain but a restaurant has to cater to all tastes. The relatively new restaurant must seat over 200 diners and it was at least half full on a Saturday at lunch time. We noted that about 75% of the diners were of Asian decent. They obviously recognize quality Japanese cuisine. The decor is sparse with some stuffed fish hanging from the exposed pipes in the ceiling and some waves painted on the walls. In spite of this, there is a fresh, clean, feel to Minado. One serving area consists of a table displaying about 20 hot entrees (some examples: fried fish, calamari, chicken teriyaki, mussels, tonkatsu, fried ravoli, tempura) followed by a section that offered 4 soups. The opposing table had approximately 20 cold salads that included: octopus, eggplant, crab louie, green bean, edamame, avocado with crab. The sushi section had about 50 different types to offer and there were 8 sushi chefs constantly creating and replenishing the dishes. Among the delights that they offered were: oshiko maki roll, spicy shrimp roll, caribbean roll, imari, spicy salmon, tamago, and red snapper. The desert area has a somewhat basic variety of creations that include several cakes, a tart, yoghurt, jello, and several fruits. Our suggestion would be to fill up on the wonderful salads, sushi and entrees and skip the desserts. We understand that the dinner menu has more hot entrees and more seafood. It is also possible to pick a variety of ingredients and have them specially prepared for you. We can't imagine why more choices would be needed! Check out Minado, we are sure that it will appeal to most tastes!
